I have not found any signifigant methods or setups for the Chaikin Volatility indicator. You have the typical general definition that it shows volatility etc.. I am looking for any information on the way of applying it with any trading rules.

I like to use volatility as a variable in trading- but this is regulated to the bollinger squeeze setups and NR7 or narrow range bars that show volatility slowing. Most of these setups provide for rules that slow volatility begets higher volatility and vice-versa.

If you notice in the pic that the chaikin volatility indicator(10 and 6 period) does a very good job signaling a breakout on the first 3 major signals. However, it does not provide any signalling on the final breakout!

Many trading authors explain how it is unwise to trade with many similar indicators. that being RSI, MACD, CCI, Stoichastics, they are all basically oscillators and it is redundant to fill up your screen with the same style indicators. As far as I can tell the Chaikins volatility indicator is not an oscillator? So far as adding this indicator to some setups would not be "redundant"?

Anybody trading with the Chaikins Volatility Indicator- or happen to notice, like I have, that like stoichastics, there happens to be visible cycles of volatility in price?

I wonder if the different states of trend/range effects signals with this indicator- much like its effect has on other indicators?

Any thoughts?

Rippy
